Our Resources

Our resources on topics related to violence against women and children include books, reports, videos, audiocassettes, DVDs, psycho-educational games, training manuals, BCYSTH publications, and Web links. We focus on practical materials that would be of interest to transition houses, safe homes, second stage houses, Children Who Witness Abuse counselors, and other groups that serve the needs of women who have experience abuse, and their children.

Who We Serve

The Library is used by members of BCYSTH and by libraries in British Columbia through the inter-library loan system. Our members need access to resources to assist the women and children they serve, to build awareness in their community, and for their ongoing professional development. By offering inter-library loans to public, academic and special libraries, we hope to make information about violence against women and children more accessible in BC and the Yukon. If you are a non-member and would like to borrow items from BCYSTH, please visit your local library to request an inter-library loan. Due to limited space and staffing, we are unable to accommodate in-person visits to the library.

Our Services to BCYSTH Member Organizations

Our member organizations benefit from these library services:

  • Borrow books at no charge - books are sent by mail and BCYSTH covers the cost of return postage.
  • Borrow audio-visuals – members must pay the return postage.
  • New resources list faxed monthly.
  • Sign up to receive email notices about new resources and information.
  • Ask a Research Librarian, our reference and research service.
