You have purchased the perfect modular home for your family. It has bedrooms for the kids and an office for you. And then there’s the guest room. What do you do with a guest room to make it look as high end as your new modular?
Decorating bedrooms is like the icing on the cake when you purchase a new home. The exterior has been made perfect by your personal choices and the builder’s skill. Now you need to illuminate that fashion prowess and interior design mastery in the guest bedroom. But how?
Steps to a Gorgeous Guest Room
You want the guest rooms grandeur to match your modular home’s fashion forward front. That’s understandable but sometimes we draw a blank on what to do with the guest room.
The kids are easy because they already know what they like and what colors they want. But making a decisive choice on color scheme and décor in the guest room can be challenging.
Here are some steps to achieve the gorgeous guest room you desire:
Use Lamps- While it’s definitely easier to just keep the overhead pre-installed lights, in order to make your guest room soothing and inviting you will need to add floor and table lamps. These will allow the guests to have more control while in the room, and they will be considerably softer than the glaring overhead lights. Get some great lamp ideas here.
Bedding- Nothing makes a room look and feel cheap than mismatched bedding. You wouldn’t do that in your own room, or your children’s, so don’t do that in the guest room either. If there is more than one bed housing the best memory foam mattress, make sure they both have the same bedding. You don’t want the room to feel like it was just thrown together. Your guests want to feel special, not like afterthoughts.
Creativity- Make a statement with your creativity in the guest bedroom. Build out a wall to make a full library that will keep your guests entertained day and night. Or, make the dresser the base of the bed so that your walls are free to display your favorite pieces of art.
Think- Although it’s probably tempting to just throw together some cheap furniture, or leftover pieces, and call it a bedroom, that’s not the look you want. Your guests want to know that you put some serious thought into the design of the room they will (briefly) be calling home. Decide on a design and stick to it. Here are some design ideas for you.
Storage- Don’t do it. Do not let this room turn into the catchall. It cannot be a substitute for your garage, or the overflow space from your office. It needs to be its own standalone bedroom. If you allow boxes and papers to proliferate, it will eventually become quite difficult to allow visitors to enjoy your home and family for any length of time. Again, don’t do it! Neutral- Your daughter’s room is pink, your boys’ room is turquoise and that’s fine for them. However, when it comes to painting the guest room, go with neutral colors to appease all your guests’ fancies. You never know when one person will find pink or turquoise terribly disturbing or uncomfortable on the eyes.
Following these simple steps will lead to an inviting yet luxurious guest bedroom that compliments your new modular home.
